out of control

yesterday i lost my mind for a moment. i felt entirely overwhelmed with the amount of work i had to do compared with my abilities to do it. The folk alliance just ended, an annual convergence of acoustic musicians from all over the world, we pack the Marriott in downtown Memphis and play music for 4 days til our fingers bleed and our voices are rough and raw. It’s a beautiful weekend. You see your brothers in arms you rarely see and get a taste of where everybody is in terms of songwriting and business. The songwriting part i’m decent at. The business part i SUCK at. I can make friends first shot out of the barrel, but business contacts are a bit more difficult for me. It’s hard to be one’s own manager/booking agent/publicist/chef/babysitter…sufice to say, i am a bit of a wreck right now. We drove out of Memphis, stopped in Nasville to let Hunter Paye get on his plane back to Portland, stayed a night in Knoxville, TN and now we’re in Columbus, OH headed to Pittsburgh tomorrow.

I am grateful to the universe for helping business people find me :)
